Meet Executive Chef Takao Iinuma
As a student at Japan’s prestigious Hattori nutrition college, Chef Iinuma apprenticed with Dr. Yukio Hattori, and was ultimately invited to serve as Nutrition Counselor and Instructor. Chef Iinuma then furthered his career in nutritional education when he became Food Director and Nutrition Advisor at Liberty, Inc.
Soon thereafter, Chef Iinuma met his mentor, Chef Masaharu Morimoto, of ‘Iron Chef’ fame. Iinuma became Chef Morimoto’s Executive Sous-Chef and Nutrition Specialist, developing recipes and overseeing culinary training for his staff. Over a period of 10 years, Chef Iinuma was entrusted with various key leadership roles and responsibilities, including that of Executive Chef of ‘Wasabi by Morimoto’ in Mumbai, India, Corporate Executive Chef at Paulimoto’s Asian Bistro in Tysons Corner, VA, and Culinary Assistant for numerous cooking events.
Chef Iinuma was then given the opportunity to become Corporate Chef and partner in ‘Win Signature Restaurants,’ a regional restaurant group with six fine-dining restaurants in the Main Line area, outside of Philadelphia, PA., where he remained for four years.
At present, Chef Iinuma brings a deep knowledge of food nutrition and a rich heritage of experience to his current role as Corporate Executive Chef for Genji. He aims to transform the menu into a playful balance between traditional and innovative contemporary cuisine with a Japanese accent. A frequent contestant on ‘Iron Chef Japan,’ Chef Iinuma enjoys blurring the lines between Asian and European cuisines as he develops menus and signature items from his vast, imaginative background.
